What feels like loss, disruption, and uncertainty may actually be God's invitation to see your new season through new eyes.
When Yesterday's Lens No Longer Works
Every major transition brings a period of disorientation. When one season ends and another begins, nothing feels familiar. The routines, relationships, opportunities, and expectations that once defined normal are gone.
In these moments, we often find ourselves grieving what was. We mourn the loss of certainty, familiarity, and the life we once knew.
The Grief of Transition
Moving into the new often involves a painful process of letting go. It can feel isolating, unstable, and deeply uncomfortable as old foundations are shaken.
"There's a mourning of what's been and an eventual acceptance of its finality."
Yet remaining attached to yesterday's perspective can prevent us from embracing what God is doing today.
The Danger of Looking Back
When we evaluate our present season through the lens of our past one, everything can appear disappointing. We see lack instead of opportunity, emptiness instead of preparation, and delay instead of purpose.
The Voice of the Old Season
The old lens often whispers:
- I've lost everything.
- I'm starting over.
- I've made no progress.
- I don't know how to move forward.
- No doors are opening.
- Nothing seems to come together.
But God sees something entirely different.
God's Perspective on the New Land
"Let Me give you My lenses so you can see what I see."
The place that appears barren is often the very place God has prepared for fruitfulness. What feels empty may actually be filled with untapped potential and divine opportunity.
God calls His people to exchange the lens of loss for the lens of promise.
The Call of the Pioneer
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly called ordinary people into extraordinary seasons that had no precedent.
Following the Example of the Disciples
After Christ's resurrection, the disciples stepped into a completely new era. There was no roadmap, no historical example, and no certainty about what lay ahead.
They became pioneers of a new move of God.
Gideon's Story Is Our Story
"And the angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, 'The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor.'" — Judges 6:12
Like Gideon, many feel unqualified, overlooked, and inadequate. Yet God sees strength where we see weakness and purpose where we see limitation.
His calling is not based on our current circumstances but on His divine perspective.
What Is Normal for a Pioneer?
Many of the things that seem wrong in a pioneering season are actually signs that you're exactly where God wants you to be.
The Reality of Pioneering
- Constant change
- Frequent realignment
- Lack of clarity
- Limited resources
- Feelings of isolation
- Being misunderstood
- Walking without certainty
These experiences are not necessarily indicators of failure. They are often part of the process of forging pioneers.
"Pioneers start alone. They have no security, familiar paths, or confident assurance of where they're going."
Give Yourself Grace
If God has called you into a new season, stop measuring your progress against the standards of the previous one.
The old ways cannot contain what God is building now.
Instead, embrace the journey, trust His leading, and allow Him to redefine what faithfulness looks like in this season.
Arise and Cross Over
"Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan..." — Joshua 1:2
Every new season requires a crossing.
God's invitation is not to remain mourning what has ended, but to step forward into what He is creating. The land ahead may look unfamiliar, but it is filled with promise.
Keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep seeing through His eyes.
