When God took Ezekiel to the Valley of Dry Bones (Ez. 37), He asked him, “Ezekiel, can these bones live?” His answer was an honest one: “O Lord God, You know.” I’m sure that it was obvious that there would never be life in this valley. It was hopeless. Only God would know if He could resurrect those lifeless bones, because it would need a miracle.
The next part in the story is fascinating. God didn’t say to Ezekiel to prophesy over the dead bones, “Bones, you shall live!” He said, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
God knew that Ezekiel didn’t have the faith, nor did he have the vision, that these bones would truly live. He didn’t have the authority to say to the bones that they would live. However, God had the authority, and He had the faith. I find it so beautiful how God interacts with His children. He knows our weaknesses, and He knows our struggles. He guides and directs us, and He supports us!
He is saying the same to us today. Face your Valley of Dry Bones and speak His Word over what you see. Speak the Word of the Lord as Ezekiel did. Speak the Prophetic Word of the Lord and His Written Word as confirmation over your promises that are broken, dry, and dead. Prophesy over your marriage, your family, your finances, your ministry, and your desires. Speak His Voice and see how He brings that which seems impossible back to life again.
Where do miracles live? They don’t live on the mountain peaks; they live in the deep valleys beneath, where it’s dark, shady, and lifeless. Where the graves are, that’s where they live. It’s time to face your graves and prophesy, “The Lord says!” God’s faith will become your faith as you speak.
Our loved ones who have journeyed with us in the valley, who don’t understand the working of the Spirit, and who haven’t encountered God like Ezekiel had—they are going to be touched and forever changed by God’s miraculous working in our lives as His resurrection power brings to life the things that we have deemed lost and unrecoverable.
